Weather update: Air quality in Punjab remained poor, with reduced visibility in many places and dense fog remaining through the morning.

During the day, the state registered 404 new instances of stubble burning, bringing the total to 8,404. Ferozepur recorded 74 new cases, while Bathinda reported 70. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), severe fog is expected to prevail at night and early morning in various areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh until November 18.

On Sunday, fog was recorded from 5.30 am until 7.30 am. The visibility was zero in Punjab's Amritsar and Patiala districts, as well as Haryana's Ambala and Hisar districts.

In some areas of Punjab, the minimum temperature was observed to be 3°C to 5°C higher than average. Over the following five days, temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3°C in most parts of Northwest India.

The deteriorating air quality is causing people to stay indoors. Advisories have been issued, urging the elderly not to go out and advising people to travel during the day to reach their destinations before the fog sets in.

According to an official on Sunday, an environmental compensation of Rs 1.35 crore has been imposed in 3,943 cases involving stubble burning as of November 15.
