PTC Web Desk: A change in weather conditions is expected across Punjab due to the impact of an active western disturbance, the Meteorological Department has said. Rainfall is likely in several parts of the state on January 23 and 24, while a yellow alert has been issued for Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Amritsar districts.

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, weather scientist Dr Kulwinder Kaur Gill stated that the state may witness noticeable weather changes in the coming days. She said over the past few days, daytime temperatures have been hovering between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius, while night temperatures have remained between 5 and 7 degrees Celsius.

Dr Gill explained that the western disturbance, originating from Pakistan, is expected to influence Punjab’s weather system, leading to rainfall in many areas on January 23 and 24. She added that districts bordering Pakistan, especially Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Amritsar, are likely to be the most affected.

There is also a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light showers at isolated places. According to Dr Gill, the expected rainfall will be beneficial for farmers, particularly for standing crops, while it is also likely to bring relief to the general public from prevailing dry weather conditions.
