Punjab: Langoor Mela starts at Bada Hanuman Mandir in Amritsar
Langoor Mela in Amritsar: One of the most prominent Melas of Punjab, the Langoor Mela has started at Bada Hanuman Mandir in Amritsar. The boys are made to dress like Langoor on this prominent occasion.
The festival is not only celebrated by people from the city but across the region as well. Thousands of children from Punjab celebrate the festival.

As per the belief, the parents wish for a child and takes oath to make them langoor once their wish is granted.

According to the Priest Bhagwan Sahay, "Those who don't have a child, they pray to Lord Hanuman. When their wish is fulfilled, male child is dressed up like a langoor and brought here."
The Bada Hanuman temple is built at the place where Luv and Kush, the sons of Lord Ram, lived with their mother Sita during their exile.
Meanwhile, those dressed up as langoor, during Langoor Mela in Amritsar, are required to pay obeisance at the Bada Hanuman Mandir situated in the Durgiana Temple Complex twice a day barefoot following all traditions of the 10–day period.
