Punjab: Two injured in group clash in Patiala; CM Mann says won’t allow anyone to create disturbance
Patiala, April 29: Two persons were injured after a clash broke out between two groups in Patiala on Friday afternoon. The situation turned tense after members of both groups started pelting stones at each other and brandished swords. Heavy Punjab Police force was deployed to bring the situation under control. As per reports, one group was supposed to carry out a march, which was objected by the other group. The police opened fire in the air to disperse the protesters. The protesters, however, blocked the Fountain roundabout in Patiala and raised slogans. SSP Nanak Singh said the situation was under control. She said the present situation was under control and being continuously monitored. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “The incident of clashes in Patiala are deeply unfortunate. I spoke with the DGP, peace has been restored in the area. We are closely monitoring the situation and will not let anyone create disturbance in the State. Punjab’s peace and harmony is of utmost importance.” Kali Devi temple closed for devotees At present, the Kali Devi temple has been closed for devotees and a large number of Punjab Police force have been deployed there. At present, the Deputy Commissioner has called a meeting of leaders of both organisations to restore a piece. Along with the IG, the DC has appealed to the residents of Patiala to cooperate with the administration in maintaining peace.
