Russia-Ukraine war: About 80 disabled Ukrainian children reach Poland by train

Kiev (Ukraine), March 30: As Russia continues to gain a stronghold in Ukraine, nearly 80 disabled children accompanied by their guardians have been transferred to Poland from Central Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in the war-torn country. On Tuesday, a total of 100 people arrived in the border town of Przemysl, Poland by train, said a spokesperson for the local Podkarpackie Voivode region, Michal Mielniczuk. They were escorted to a reception centre in the city of Stalowa Wola. As many as 26 children were transferred via ambulances, Mielniczuk informed. The spokesperson further said that the children will be taken to Germany but they will stay for about three days in Stalowa Wola, Poland, where they will receive aid and support. The number of refugees fleeing Ukraine has now surpassed 4 million, according to the UN refugee agency's chief, Filippo Grandi, as Russia's war on Ukraine enters its sixth week. More than 4 million refugees fled since Russian invade in Ukraine The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi on Twitter wrote, "I have just arrived in Ukraine. In Lviv, I will discuss with the authorities, the UN and other partners ways to increase our support to people affected and displaced by this senseless war." As per the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the number of refugees fleeing Ukraine includes over 2,04,000 third-country nationals. IOM is providing food, core-relief items, cash and protection support including awareness-raising and counter-trafficking in Ukraine and other neighbouring countries. Grandi has previously described the refugee exodus from Ukraine as "Europe's fastest-growing refugee crisis since World War II." Russia-Ukraine war creating a child refugee 'almost every second' On February 24, Russia started a special military operation in Ukraine. The special operation, which targets Ukrainian military infrastructure, aims to "demilitarise and denazify" Ukraine, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
