SAD condemns Sukhi Randhawa for defacing Kartarpur corridor foundation stone The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Congress party and its minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa for indulging in cheap politics by defacing the Kartarpur Corridor foundation stone even before start of the foundation stone laying ceremony. shiromani akali dal In a statement here, former minister and senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia said Sukhjinder Randhawa’s action was shocking and shameful and totally unbecoming of a Sikh and a Punjab government minister. “No Sikh would try to politicise and spoil such a solemn occasion associated with Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji by performing such an abominable act”. shiromani akali dal Mr Majithia said Sukhi Randhawa’s actions could be understood if one was to take into account his past. “Not only does he belong to the Congress party which attacked Sri Darbar Sahab with tanks and mortars and indulged in massacre of Sikhs in 1984, but he is also from a family which lauded Indira Gandhi for the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib”. Stating that Sukhi’s father Santokh Singh Randhawa had welcomed the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, the Akali leader said the Congress minister had through his actions today not only politicised a solemn function but also shown his narrow mindedness. “At a time when the entire Sikh world was eagerly looking forward to the epoch making foundation stone laying ceremony, the Congress party and its leaders started playing a political credit game. This kind of behaviour is shameful and shows how much respect the Congress party has for the Sikh religion”. Stating that Randhawa could not obliterate Badal Sahab’s efforts to make this corridor a reality by such disgusting acts, Mr Majithia said it was a fact that former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had proposed establishment of the corridor with Pakistan in 1999 after S Parkash Singh Badal had taken up the issue with him. “Badal Sahab also led the Punjab assembly in passing a resolution for establishment of the corridor in2010”, he added. Asking the Congress party not to play politics on the Kartarpur corridor, Mr Majithia thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fulfilling an age old demand of the Sikh community for opening of the corridor. “Sukhi Randhawa should not show his frustration by indulging in despicable acts and should uphold the ideology of ‘Sarbat Da Bhala ‘ as propagated by the great Guru “, Mr Majithia added. - PTC News
