Shahkot bypoll: SDM, 2 SHOs transferred by EC
The Election Commission (EC) ordered the transfer of SDM Shahkot and two station house officers (SHOs), ahead of the bypoll to the Shahkot assembly constituency on May 28.

The Shahkot seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent MLA and senior SAD leader Ajit Singh Kohar.
Shahkot SDM Darbara Singh has been transferred and the name of PCS officer Jagjit Singh approved for the post by the EC, said an official spokesman.
The commission also approved the names of inspectors Davinder Singh and Parminder Singh for the post of SHOs at Shahkot and Mehatpur police stations respectively.
Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had earlier urged the EC for the cancellation of transfers of Darbara Singh and two SHOs, claiming that the state government had replaced Varinderpal Singh, SDM, Shahkot, with Darbara Singh and shifted two SHOs after the model code of conduct came into force.
