"The BCCI confirms the appointment of Mr. Amol Muzumdar as the new Head Coach of Team India (Senior Women)," it added.
Muzumdar, who was born on November 11, 1974, was a right-handed batter who had a distinguished career in first-class cricket, scoring 11,167 runs in 171 matches.
Despite his stellar record, he was never selected for the Indian national team, owing largely to the presence of cricketing legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and VVS Laxman during his prime.
Muzumdar's coaching career is also noteworthy. He worked as a batting coach for the Rajasthan Royals and even served as an interim coach for the South African national team during their tour of India. He was the head coach of the Mumbai squad before being appointed to the senior women's team.
His coaching experience also includes working as a batting consultant for the India Under-19 and Under-23 cricket teams, as well as the Netherlands cricket team.
Muzumdar expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. The former Mumbai captain stated that he hopes to work closely with the team over the next two years, as the team has two World Cups lined up.
“I am deeply honoured and privileged to be appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Women's Cricket Team. I thank the CAC and the BCCI for placing their trust in me and believing in my vision and the roadmap for Team India. This is a huge responsibility and I look forward to working closely with talented players and providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel. The next two years are extremely important as two World Cups are scheduled in the period. Together with the coaching and support staff, we will look to tick every box and give ourselves the best chance to succeed.”
