'Couldn't even brush teeth for 2 months...': Rishabh Pant recalls his life-threatening accident

PTC Web News: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant revealed that following his life-threatening road accident in December 2022, his injuries were so severe that he was unable to brush his teeth for two months.

Pant appeared on the second episode of 'Dhawan Karenge,' a talk show hosted by Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan on JioCinema. During the episode, the 26-year-old cricketer discussed his experience after suffering life-threatening injuries in a horrific accident that left him with multiple fractures and necessitated ligament reconstruction and knee surgery. These injuries were critical to his career, but he recently returned to IPL 2024 after a 15-month rehabilitation.

While speaking about his post-injury experience, Rishabh says, "Self-belief and self-confidence are very important while recovering from an injury because there are people saying all sorts of things around you, and you, as an individual, have to think about what's best for you."

"The accident was a life-changing event for me. When I got up after it, I wasn't sure if I'd be alive, but God was gracious enough to save me. I couldn't even brush my teeth for two months, and for six to seven months, I was in excruciating pain. I couldn't go to the airport because I was nervous about approaching people in a wheelchair," he added.

He went on to say, "Now that I'm making a comeback in cricket, I'm excited rather than nervous. I feel like this is a second life, so I'm both excited and nervous."

In the recently concluded IPL 2024, Rishabh's Delhi Capitals finished sixth with seven wins, seven losses, and 14 points, failing to advance to the playoffs. He scored 446 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of over 155, including three half-centuries, and finished as the team's leading run-getter.

Pant will make his comeback to international cricket during the ICC T20 World Cup, which begins on June 1 in the West Indies and the United States.
