Born in Amritsar in 1946, Bishan Singh Bedi played 67 Tests for India, securing 266 wickets, including 14 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul. He was an integral part of the golden quartet of Indian spinners, which included Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat Chandrasekhar, and Srinivas Venkataraghavan. Together, they formed the core of India's bowling unit for more than a decade between 1966 and 1978.
Bedi briefly served as the manager of the Indian cricket team in 1990 during tours of New Zealand and England. He also contributed as a national selector and mentor to numerous talented spinners, such as Maninder Singh, Sunil Joshi, and Murali Kartik, all of whom valued his technical insights.
Bishan Singh Bedi was highly regarded as an Indian captain and led the team for nearly four years in Test cricket between 1975 and 1979 following Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi's retirement. His contributions to Indian cricket left an indelible mark, and his legacy will forever be celebrated in the cricketing world.
