Sports Ministry revokes suspension of Wrestling Federation of India
PTC News Desk: The Sports Ministry has revoked suspension of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). On March 10, the WFI issued an order directing the newly elected Executive Committee to abstain from handling the Federation's daily affairs until further notice.
The ad-hoc committee was led by Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, with hockey Olympian MM Somaya and former international badminton player Manjusha Kanwar serving as its members.
The Ministry made this decision due to concerns over governance failures and procedural lapses by the newly elected body, which was reportedly being influenced by former office bearers—violating the National Sports Development Code of India, 2011 ("Sports Code"). As a result, all decisions taken by the previous IOA-appointed Ad-hoc Committee have been nullified.
In December 2023, the Ministry had announced the suspension of the WFI under Sanjay Singh’s leadership, citing the body's blatant disregard for established rules and regulations. It stated that the announcement of national competitions was rushed and did not adhere to the required procedures.
