T20 World Cup 2024: Shahid Afridi named tournament ambassador
T20 World Cup 2024: Shahid Afridi, a Pakistani cricket legend, has been selected as tournament ambassador for the next T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the Caribbean and the United States. He joined Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, and Usain Bolt on the list of ambassadors. Afridi won the Player of the Series award in the tournament's inaugural year, 2007.
In 34 T20 World Cup matches, Afridi scored 546 runs at an average of 18.82 and took 39 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls. He also received the Player of the Match award after Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the 2009 T20 World Cup final at London's historic Lord's Cricket Ground.
"The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is a very special event for me. Some of my favourite career highlights have come from participating on this platform, from being named Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition to winning the trophy in 2009," Afridi said.
"T20 World Cups have gone from strength to strength in recent years, and I'm thrilled to be part of this edition, where we will see more teams, more matches and even more drama than ever before."
