World Cup 2023: Indian Cricket Team arrives in Delhi for match against Afghanistan

New Delhi, October 9: The Indian men's cricket team has arrived in Delhi, gearing up for their second ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan. After securing a six-wicket victory against Australia in their tournament opener, India is looking to maintain their winning momentum.

In the first game of World Cup 2023, India faced some early challenges, losing three wickets in the initial 10 overs. However, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli played crucial roles in stabilising the innings and set the foundation for a successful chase, eventually reaching the target of 200.

Unfortunately, young talent Shubman Gill, who missed the first match due to illness, will also be absent in the upcoming game against Afghanistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Shubman Gill would remain in Chennai under medical supervision instead of travelling with the squad to Delhi.

In Shubman Gill's absence, it is likely that India will stick with the same playing XI that featured in their World Cup opener against Australia. Ishan Kishan is expected to be a viable choice to open alongside skipper Rohit Sharma when India faces Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.

India's squad for the World Cup: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav.
