Three units of thermal plants shut down in Punjab due to declining demand for electricity
Patiala, May 5: While people of Punjab have been relieved from the heat due to rain in various parts of Punjab on Wednesday, Punjab Powercom has also breathed a sigh of relief.
Due to rain in various parts of Punjab, demand for electricity declined due and therefore, load on thermal plants reduced.

Five units at Punjab's thermal plants were shut down, leaving people in a state of shock due to unannounced cuts. Due to declining power demand, 2 units of Ropar Thermal Plant have been shut down. Apart from this 1 unit of Bathinda's Lehra Mohabbat has also been shut down.
The weather turned pleasant due to rainfall in many parts of Punjab and the farmers also got the required water through rains due to which the demand for electricity was reduced by 2,000 MW last evening.
On Thursday morning, the demand for power was recorded at 7500 MW which is 1200 MW less than the previous days.
Meanwhile, one unit of Talwandi Sabo which was repaired and shut down has not been able to function yet. One unit at Goindwal Sahib is still closed due to shortage of coal. In all, 5 out of 15 units of thermal plants in Punjab are closed.

It may be recalled that there was a huge outcry among the people in Punjab due to non-availability of power supply. People across Punjab were protesting in front of power grids. Apart from this, Powercom had also raised its hands and started conducting basic services in the villages.
