Ministry of External Affairs has issued an advisory asking Indian nationals whose presence is not essential in Niger to leave the country as soon as possible, following the coup in the African nation.
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said at a media briefing on Friday that the Indian government is closely monitoring the situation in Niger and also asked the people to reconsider their plans if they are travelling to Niamey.

Both houses of Parliament were adjourned sine die on Friday, bringing an end to the Monsoon session that registered total productivity of 45 per cent in the Lower House and 63 per cent in the Upper House.
While addressing a press briefing here, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that a total of 17 sittings were held during the 23-day-long session.

The legislations -- the Integrated Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and Central Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023 -- were moved in Lok Sabha to make way for imposing a 28 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) for online gaming, casinos, and horse racing.
The Rajya Sabha on Friday bid farewell to five members, including BJP leader Jugalsinh Lokhandwala (BJP) who will retire on August 18, and recalled their contribution to the House. Out of the nine retiring members, four have been re-elected and the House will miss the other five members, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar said.

New Delhi, August 11: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said in Lok Sabha that the new bill on the Indian Penal Code (IPC) will completely repeal the offence of sedition. Shah introduced three bills in the Lok Sabha to replace the IPC, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act.
Speaking on the three bills in the Lower House, Amit Shah said, "Under this law, we are repealing laws like Sedition."

New Delhi, August 11: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is likely to hold a news conference on Friday afternoon days after launching a scathing attack on the government over the situation in Manipur during the debate on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.
Rahul Gandhi, who was earlier reinstated as MP after the Supreme Court suspended his conviction in a criminal defamation case, is scheduled to address the media at the All India Congress Committee office in Delhi at 3 pm.
Udhampur, August 11: Security has been scaled up across Udhampur district in view of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with security forces patrolling and manning the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
India will be celebrating its 76th Independence Day and the Prime Minister is scheduled to address the nation on the occasion from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort.
Shimla, August 11: About 242 roads, including two national highways, were closed in Himachal Pradesh due to the recent rainfall, according to the state emergency operation centre.
According to the Himachal Pradesh state emergency operation centre, National Highway 21 is closed due to a landslide.
Meanwhile, National Highway 5 is closed but is expected to be restored in 1 to 2 hours, with alternate routes open, they said.

Shimla, August 11: The regional meteorological department in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall with thunder likely to occur in parts of Himachal Pradesh.
According to the warning, light to moderate rainfall is expected in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Chamba and Una over the next three hours. In addition, heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Kangra and Mandi.

Ernakulam, August 11: Cochin Customs officers on Friday recovered gold, worth around Rs 85 lakh, from the rear toilet of an Indigo Airlines plane.
The gold was in paste form found in two unclaimed bags, said officials.
The officials said the gold weighed around 1,709 grams.

Punjab, August 11: Border Security Force personnel shot dead an intruder from Pakistan and thereby foiled an infiltration bid along the Inda Pakistan border in Punjab's Tarn Taran in the early hours of Friday morning.
The BSF said, some suspicious movements were observed near the border security fence on the international border early this morning, and immediately took positions.
When the intruders kept on moving closer to the border fence, the troops fired on them.

Solan, August 11: The Shimla-Kalka road along National Highway-5 has been rendered impassable due to a landslide in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district in the early hours of Friday, as reported by local authorities. The incident occurred at around 2:35 am to 2:40 am, precipitated by heavy rains, leading to a closure of the key route.
An official statement confirmed, "Today, on August 11, between Thambu Mod and Chakki Mod, a section of Shimla National Highway 5 had to be closed due to landslides originating from the adjacent hillside."
This event marks another episode of disruption along the Shimla-Kalka road, which was recently reopened for traffic on Wednesday after necessary restoration efforts. The road had been closed following a previous landslide last week.
Concurrently, the toll of casualties arising from the cumulative impact of heavy rains, floods, and landslides in Himachal Pradesh has surged to 223 since the monsoon season commenced on June 24.
Himachal Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi disclosed, "A total of 223 individuals have tragically lost their lives in Himachal Pradesh, with 295 more sustaining injuries. The catastrophic weather conditions have led to the complete destruction of around 800 houses, and another 7500 houses have suffered partial damage."
Adding to the state's challenges, the National Center for Seismology reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 on the Richter scale that shook the Lahaul And Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh. The tremors were felt at precisely 23:20:41 Indian standard time (IST). The NCS clarified that the seismic event occurred at a depth of 5 kilometers.
