HC reprimands Punjab Government over Qaumi Insaaf Morcha protest inaction
PTC Web Desk: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday reprimanded the Punjab Government, questioning why no action has been taken thus far in addressing the ongoing situation involving the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha protest at YPS Chowk in Mohali, which has resulted in the continued use of only one lane of the road.
Expressing concerns over the lack of progress despite nearly a year passing since the inception of the protest, the Punjab and Haryana High Court asked "if the government is waiting to commemorate the first anniversary of the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha protest".
The court expressed apprehensions that if the current scenario persisted, there might be a second anniversary for the protest too.
In response to the court's inquiries, the Punjab Government stated that the Advocate General was currently in Delhi and requested additional time due to this reason.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court emphasised that the occupation of public roads causing inconvenience to the general public is unacceptable.
Notably, the petition, represented by its president Harman Singh Sidhu, sought the removal of encroachments around YPS Chowk in Mohali, where members of the Quami Insaaf Morcha have staged a dharna (protest) demanding the release of Sikh prisoners.
