Meta Introduces Verified Account Service in India: Boosting authenticity and support for influencers

New Delhi, June 08: Meta, the parent company of popular social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has introduced a verified account service in India. The company announced on Wednesday that users can now avail themselves of this service for a monthly subscription price of Rs 699 on mobile apps.

Additionally, Meta has plans to launch the verified service on the web in the coming months, offering it at a slightly lower subscription price of Rs 599 per month.

In a statement, Meta stated that the Meta Verified service is now available for direct purchase on Instagram or Facebook in India. Interested individuals can buy a monthly subscription for Rs 699 on iOS and Android platforms. Furthermore, the company revealed its intention to introduce a web purchase option for Rs 599 per month in the near future.

To obtain a verified account subscription, Facebook and Instagram users will need to verify their accounts by providing a government ID. This verification process aims to offer protection against impersonation and provide additional support for verified accounts.

Meta emphasised that the decision to expand Meta Verified to India was influenced by positive outcomes observed during earlier testing in various countries worldwide. The company also assured that previously granted verified badges based on existing criteria will continue to be honored.

Eligibility for the verified account service requires accounts to meet certain minimum activity requirements, including a history of prior postings. Applicants must also be at least 18 years old. Once these criteria are met, individuals are required to submit a government ID that matches the profile name and photo of the Facebook or Instagram account for which they are applying.

Meta's objective is to simplify the process for creators to establish their presence on Instagram or Facebook, enabling them to focus on building their communities. The company stated that as Meta Verified expands globally, there will be no changes to the accounts that were previously verified.

It is worth noting that Twitter was the first social media platform to introduce a monthly subscription fee for verified accounts. Earlier this year, Twitter launched the Twitter Blue subscription service, offering users the opportunity to maintain their verification status for a monthly fee of Rs 650 on the web and Rs 900 on mobile devices.

As Meta ventures into the realm of verified accounts, it aims to provide users with enhanced features and opportunities while ensuring the authenticity and credibility of public figures and creators on its platforms.
