Deepfake photos: Sachin's daughter Sara Tendulkar falls victim to new trend; calls for suspension of such accounts
PTC Web Desk: In the current era, the surge in popularity and accessibility of artificial intelligence has led to a concerning trend—deepfake images of prominent personalities flooding Internet. Recently, Sara Tendulkar, daughter of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, became a victim of this phenomenon. Numerous fraudulent accounts, often verified on social media platforms like X (formerly known as Twitter), have surfaced, featuring deepfake images purportedly of Sara.
Expressing her concern, Sara took to Instagram to alert her followers about these counterfeit accounts on X. She emphasised her worries regarding the misuse of technology to create these false representations of her identity.
Taking to Instagram, she said, "Social media is a wonderful space for all of us to share our joys, sorrows and daily activities. However, it is disconcerting to see the misuse of technology as it takes away from the truth and authenticity of the internet. I have come across some deepfake photos of me which are far from reality."
"A few accounts on X (formerly Twitter) have obviously been created with an intent to impersonate me and mislead people. I do not have an account on X, and I hope X looks into such accounts and suspends them," she added while urging X to take action.
"Entertainment should never come at the expense of the truth. Let's encourage communication that’s based on trust and reality," Sara Tendulkar further added.
