11-year-old girl found allergic to her tears, sweat!
PTC Web Desk: In Queensland, the mother of an 11-year-old girl, Summah Williams, initially mistook her daughter's severe skin condition for sunburn. Summah was recently hospitalised in Brisbane due to a painful rash, with inflamed and cracked skin. Her mother, Karyn Zimny, revealed that Summah experienced shivering in hot weather and persistent itching. Upon hospitalisation, Summah was diagnosed with severe eczema, compounded by an allergy to her tears and sweat.
The condition became evident when she shed skin from head to toe during antibiotic treatment for a staph infection. Despite being an award-winning dancer, Summah's skin condition has led to trial injections for treatment, with ongoing facial flares causing considerable pain.
Zimny shared that Summah's tears trigger a rash, leading to what they refer to as 'Panda eyes.' Additionally, her sweat causes an allergic reaction, impacting her love for dancing. The young girl often expresses heartbreak over the disparity between her skin and that of her dance friends.
Australian children have one of the highest rates of eczema globally, according to the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. Summah's struggle with severe eczema and associated allergies highlights the challenges faced by individuals dealing with complex skin conditions, impacting their daily lives and emotional well-being.
