PTC Web Desk: An influencer hailing from Singapore has ignited a fervent debate after revealing that she became a grandmother at the tender age of 34. Shirli Ling, now 35, has garnered attention after her revelation that her 17-year-old son had welcomed a child last year.

Notabky, Shirli Ling, who runs a chicken hotpot restaurant, has been married thrice and raising a total of five children. Her journey started at the age of 17 when she bore her first son, subsequently welcoming another son and three daughters into her family fold.

In a candid Instagram video posted in March, she candidly discussed her experiences of navigating grand motherhood at such a youthful age, reflecting on its nuances of both positivity and challenges. She humorously recounted her initial reaction upon learning of her eldest son's girlfriend's pregnancy, joking that her son had seemingly drawn inspiration from her own experiences by becoming a parent at 17.

She said, "Compared to other kids, he is more curious, he likes to play. So when he told me his girlfriend got pregnant, I felt that I wanted him to decide for himself and take responsibility for his actions."

She said, "Depends on how you look at it and how you manage it."

However, her openness about her unconventional familial journey sparked a polarising response among netizens. While some lauded her for her transparency and supportive stance towards her children, others flayed her, describing her as a "failed mother."

Her willingness to share her story and her children's choices garnered both praise and condemnation from social media users. Amidst the debate, some lightheartedly speculated about Ling's potential future roles as a great-grandmother and even a great-great-grandmother.

With over 20,000 followers on Instagram, she rose to prominence following her role in the Singaporean military comedy film "Ah Girls Go Army" in 2022.
