Donald Trump as the next Pope? Viral AI image stirs outrage just days after Pontiff’s death
PTC Web Desk: In a move that has left the internet stunned and critics fuming, US President Donald Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the Pope, seated regally on the coronation chair. The picture, which quickly went viral after being posted on his Truth Social platform and shared by the White House on X, has ignited a social media firestorm.
The controversial image comes just days after the passing of Pope Francis, who died on April 21 at the age of 88. Trump had recently attended the Pope’s funeral at the Vatican and, in a bold remark during a rally, stated, “I’d like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice.”
While some online users saw humour in the post, many others slammed it as tone-deaf and disrespectful. “As President of the United States, this post doesn't reflect respect or leadership. It's childish and arrogant,” said one user, criticizing Trump for what they described as mocking the solemn occasion.

Even South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham joined the circus, tweeting his support: “I was excited to hear that President Trump is open to the idea of being the next Pope.” He even encouraged the papal conclave to consider Trump as a candidate.
The conclave to elect the new Pope is set to begin next week, but Trump’s playful ambition has added a surreal twist to the proceedings at the Vatican.
