The National President of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who is contesting for the Karhal assembly seat in Mainpuri, will file his nomination papers at the Collectorate office on Monday. Along with Akhilesh Yadav, other SP candidates will file nominations on the day. Yadav will contest from the Karhal assembly seat for the first time in his political career. "On January 31, Akhilesh Yadav would go to the Collectorate to file his nomination papers. The people of Karhal in Mainpuri, according to the party, wanted Yadav to contest from the constituency. Akhilesh Yadav will walk from Saifai to reach the district headquarters via Karhal for nomination. On the way, a huge public could gather as the SP supremo will file his nomination from the Karhal constituency for the first time. According to the rules on behalf of the party, "the process of the nomination has been said with simplicity," said SP. Voting in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, and March 3 and 7. The results of the election will be announced on March 10. Although the nomination process has begun in Mainpuri, voting will take place in the third phase of the assembly elections. Since 1993, the Samajwadi Party has maintained a stronghold in Karhal. The party has only lost this seat once, in 2002. Furthermore, the BJP has yet to declare a candidate for the Karhal assembly seat.
