Vitality Hockey Women's World Cup: Germany in last 8 after three wins Germany continued its winning spree to become the second team after Ireland to qualify for the quarter finals of the Vitality Hockey Women's World Cup in London on Saturday. In its third and last pool game, Germany overcame stiff resistance from Spain to win 3-1 for its third consecutive win to get maximum nine points from three games, Germany thus gains direct entry to quarter finals.
Germany had beaten South Africa 3-1 and Argentina 3-2 in earlier games.

Making clear of its intentions, Germany took the early lead, scoring through Anne Schrodder from the first penalty corner in the fifth minute.

And before the teams broke for the interval, Germany allowed Spain to neutralize the lead as a penalty corner taken by Gine Xantal saw the ball ballooning into air in front of the goalmouth which was unfortunately deflected into her own goal by Lisa Altenburg. The goal was, however, credited to Gine Xantal.
Two goals in two minutes in the third quarter saw the Germany tightening its grip over the game. It was Selin Cruz who scord her first goal of the World Cup in the 37th minute and two minutes later Marie Mavers made it 3-1 from the third penalty corner earned by Germany.
Spain had beaten South Africa 7-1 for its only win in the pool matches. It lost its first game to Argentina 2-6.
