West Bengal post-poll violence: CBI arrests two in connection with BJP leader's death

Kolkata, February 16: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday arrested two absconding individuals who were accused in a case related to the death of BJP leader Avijit Sarkar. Sarkar, a resident of Kolkata's Sitala Tala Lane, was killed in post-poll violence in West Bengal. According to the CBI, both the absconders have been identified as Rahul Dey and Sourav Dey. The investigating agency further said that these two were among 12 absconders in a case in which police had filed the charge sheet against 20 accused of poll-related violence. Two arrested over Bengal post-poll violence The CBI also stated that they registered the latest case last year on August 25 in response to orders issued by the High Court of Calcutta on August 19 and then took over the investigation of the case, which was previously registered at the Narkeldanga Police Station in Kolkata in reference to FIR number 124/21 dated 2 May on a complaint. The victim was rescued but was rushed to the hospital after being brutally beaten, according to the CBI. A charge sheet against twenty accused was filed in the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM), Sealdah (West Bengal) on September 30, according to the CBI.
