'I come from two Indias': A police complaint has been filed against stand-up comedian Vir Das at Tilak Marg Police Station in Delhi for allegedly using derogatory language against India during an event held in the United States, the Delhi Police said on Wednesday.
Delhi resident Aditya Jha has filed a complaint against the stand-up comedian in connection with a video titled 'I come from two Indias' from his performance at the John F Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, which the actor-comedian had uploaded on YouTube on Monday.

Following social media criticism over his video, Vir Das issued a statement through his Twitter handle, stating that his intention was not to insult the country. "The video is a satire about the duality of two very separate India's that do different things. Like any nation has light and dark, good and evil within it. None of this is a secret. The video appeals for us to never forget that we are great. To never stop focusing on what makes us great."
Who is Vir Das?
Vir Das is quite famous for his stand-up comedy. In 2017, he acted in Netflix special 'Abroad Understanding'. Das has performed in approximately 35 plays, over 100 stand-up comedy shows, 18 films, eight TV shows and six comedy specials.
He has written comedic columns for Femina, Maxim, Exotica, DNA and Tehelka. In 2019, he made his debut in American television with the television series, Whiskey Cavalier.
He did his schooling from Indian Language School. Vir Das is a graduate in economics. He married his girlfriend of five years, Shivani Mathur, in October 2014.

Vir Das landed in a controversy after a video edited from his recent performance in the United States went viral on social media. He is being termed as anti-national. During his performance, Vir Das talked about some of the pressing issues in the country, such as the battle against coronavirus pandemic, rape cases, crackdown against comedians and farmers’ protests.
Vir Das said in this poem, “I come from an India where women are worshiped during the day and raped in the night. I come from India where you are AQ1 9000 yet we lie on our roofs and count the stars at night. I come from India where we take pride in being vegetarians but give trouble to the same farmers.”
