21-year-old Brazilian woman falls to death after bungee jump crew forgets to attach rope

PTC News Desk: A 21-year-old woman died during a bungee jump in Brazil after staff allegedly allowed her to jump without attaching the safety rope.

The woman, identified as Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, fell more than 130 feet from Skeleton Bridge in São Paulo state during an activity organised by a private company. Videos from the scene reportedly show staff guiding her to the edge of the bridge and releasing her, apparently unaware that the main safety cord had not been secured.

As she fell, people watching realised something was wrong and could be heard shouting, "The rope, the rope!" according to videos circulating on social media.

Police said the safety cord, which is meant to protect the jumper during the fall, had not been attached to Maria. She plunged into the ravine below before anyone could stop the jump or help her.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but she was declared dead. Her body was later taken to the forensic institute for examination as authorities launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
