Ankara (Turkey), February 27: At least 69 people were injured and one died after an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 jolted Turkey's eastern Malatya province, Anadolu Agency reported.

The earthquake on Monday was the latest major tremor to hit Turkey as the country recovers from massive quakes that killed more than 50,000 people in southern Turkey and northwest Syria. According to the country's disaster management agency (AFAD), the latest quake was centred in the town of Yesilyurt in Malatya province, and one person was killed when a factory collapsed in Kahramanmaras.

In contrast, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck the country three minutes later, with its epicentre in Hatay's Samandag province.

The first quake occurred at a depth of 16.7 kilometres (10.4 miles), while the second occurred at a depth of 7 kilometres (4.3 mi). Both were felt in the surrounding areas.
