Nine dead, several injured in school shooting in Austria's Graz; suspect believed to be a student
PTC Web Desk: At least nine persons lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a tragic shooting incident at a school in Graz, Austria, according to a report by news agency Reuters, citing local sources.
The alleged gunman, believed to be a student at the school, reportedly died by suicide and was found inside a washroom, as per UK-based The Independent, which referred to Austrian state broadcaster ORF. However, officials have yet to issue a formal statement confirming these details.

The authorities launched a major emergency response around 10 am local time following reports of gunfire inside the educational institution. Both students and staff members were among the seriously wounded, according to ORF.
Social media footage captured the rapid arrival of multiple police vehicles at the scene, while another video showed emergency services and bystanders gathered near the school premises. Austrian police stated that the incident took place on a street where a secondary school is located. The entire building was cleared and the area was cordoned off to secure the location.
According to Krone Zeitung, the spouse of a teacher who had barricaded herself in a classroom with students recounted hearing multiple gunshots during the terrifying ordeal. Parents of surviving students were permitted to reunite with their children, while the injured received immediate medical care.
The shooting occurred just days before the tenth anniversary of the infamous Graz rampage on June 20, 2015, which had resulted in three fatalities.
