Canadian authorities arrest Gurpatwant Pannun's close aide Inderjit Singh Gosal
PTC News Desk: The Canadian authorities on Monday arrested Inderjit Singh Gosal, who is a close associate of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, chief of banned outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) on multiple firearms-related charges in Ottawa.
Gosal is one of the key organisers in Canada, who has been on the radar of both Indian and Canadian agencies over his role in separatist activities.
Gosal was arrested over illegal possession of firearms, though the police have not disclosed the exact number or type of weapons seized. The details of the charges are expected to be formally presented when Gosal is produced before a court later this week.
This is not the first time Gosal encountered law enforcement agencies. Earlier in 2024, he was detained in connection with a violent incident at a Hindu temple in the Greater Toronto.
He is deemed as one of the closed confidant of Pannun, who is a designated terrorist. New Delhi has accused SFJ of orchestrating anti-India propaganda and financing separatist campaigns abroad.
The arrest comes days after Indian National Security Advisor held talks with Canadian counterpart, with Ottawa signalling cooperation in addressing terrorism concerns. It has also been suggested that Ottawa is more likely to clampdown on separatist networks amid ongoing diplomatic tension with India.
