The United States dropped 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs on the mountain above Iran’s Fordow nuclear facility and two other locations on Sunday. In response, Iran has pledged retaliation. President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that the U.S. must “face consequences,” condemning the attacks as a blatant act of aggression against Iranian nuclear infrastructure. These strikes mark the most significant Western military action against Iran since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
UN SECURITY COUNCIL CONVENES AMID TENSIONS
In light of the rising conflict, Iran called for an emergency session of the UN Security Council on Sunday. Iranian Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, accused the U.S. and Israel of sabotaging diplomatic efforts and dismissed all American allegations as baseless. He also criticized the misuse of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, calling it a tool of political manipulation.
"Instead of guaranteeing parties' legitimate rights to peaceful nuclear energy, it has been exploited as a pretext for aggression and unlawful action that jeopardize the supreme interests of my country," Iravani told the council.
