Indian man delivering pizza in Philadelphia shot dead in 'abandoned apartment': What we know so far
PTC News Desk: A 28-year-old Indian national from Hyderabad was shot dead while delivering pizzas in North Philadelphia, United States, earlier this week, authorities said on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Anshul Kuncha, was working as a pizza delivery driver. The incident occurred around midnight on Friday when he arrived at Raymond Rosen Homes, a housing complex located on the 2300 block of Edgley Street, to complete a delivery.
According to police, Kuncha had just delivered the order to a vacant unit inside the complex when he was shot in the head. Officers responding to the scene found him critically injured and rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead at around 1 a.m.
Investigators said surveillance footage from the Philadelphia Housing Authority captured Kuncha entering the housing complex while two individuals dressed in dark clothing and carrying a backpack appeared to follow him.
Police recovered three spent shell casings from the scene, suggesting the attackers were standing very close to the victim when the shots were fired. Kuncha’s vehicle was later located, and officers found a delivery bag and three pizza boxes inside the vacant apartment where the order had been delivered.
No arrests have been made so far, and investigators are continuing to search for leads in the case.
“He was lying on the ground unresponsive, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to the head,” Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small told local media. “From the pizza boxes, we were able to identify the pizza shop.”
The Indian Consulate in New York expressed condolences over Kuncha’s death and said it is in contact with his family. The consulate added that it is extending all possible assistance to support the family during this difficult time.
"We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Anshul Kuncha, an Indian national in Philadelphia, PA," it said on X. "Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time. The Consulate is in touch with Anushul’s family and is extending all possible assistance."
