Indian Navy rescues 23 Pakistani nationals from hijacked Iranian fishing vessel

PTC News Desk: The Indian Navy rescued at least 23 Pakistani nationals from a fishing vessel hijacked by Somali pirates during a 12-hour operation in the Arabian Sea.

The dramatic rescue took place in the early hours of March 29, 2024, when the Indian Navy warship INS Sumedha intercepted the hijacked vessel, FV Al-Kambar, which was being held captive by pirates. Acting swiftly, INS Sumedha was joined by the guided missile frigate INS Trishul to strengthen the operation.

Using their tactical expertise and strategic coordination, Indian naval forces began negotiating with the pirates, forcing them to surrender without violence. The surrender was a decisive victory for the Indian Navy in combating piracy and ensuring the safety of maritime operations in the region.

Following the successful capture of the pirates, Indian Naval specialist teams boarded the FV Al-Kambar to conduct extensive sanitisation and seaworthiness checks. These meticulous examinations aim to ensure the vessel's safety before escorting it to a secure location, allowing the crew to resume normal fishing activities.

On Friday evening, the Indian Navy responded to a potential piracy attack on an Iranian fishing vessel in the Arabian Sea by diverting two naval ships to intercept it.

The Indian Navy received information about a potential piracy incident aboard the Iranian fishing vessel 'Al Kambar'. The Iranian vessel was approximately 90 Nm south-west of Socotra when the incident occurred, and it was reported that nine armed pirates boarded it.

"Indian Navy remains committed to ensuring maritime security in the region and safety of seafarers, irrespective of nationalities," the statement read
