PTC Web Desk: An Indian woman in Singapore has been charged with repeatedly stabbing a six-year-old child with a pen at a childcare centre in 2022, inflicting injuries on his face and scalp.

The 43-year-old woman was charged with one count of ill-treating a child in her care under the Children and Young Persons Act.

According to a Channel News Asia report, the court granted a wide-ranging gag order prohibiting the release of the victim's, accused's, and incident location information.

According to the chargesheet, the woman is an Indian national and a permanent resident of Singapore.

On November 16, 2022, while the boy was under her care at the childcare centre, she allegedly stabbed him several times in the head with a pen.

As a result, the boy received a 1-cm abrasion on his scalp, a 2-cm abrasion on his brow ridge, and a 1.5-cm abrasion on his head. The woman indicated that she would plead guilty.

She was offered SGD 15,000 bail, and her case will be heard again in June. If convicted of mistreating a child in her care, she faces up to eight years in prison, an SGD 8,000 fine, or both.
