No smartphones! This country is planning a complete ban on mobiles in schools

PTC News Desk: The UK government has decided to ban the use of mobile phones in all schools in an effort to improve students' behaviour and attention. The authorities asserted the move was part of a plan to ''minimise disruption and improve classroom behaviour.''

In a statement, the Education Secretary stated: "Schools are places for children to learn and mobile phones are, at a minimum, an unwanted distraction in the classroom. We are giving our hard-working teachers the tools to take action to help improve behaviour and to allow them to do what they do best, teach."

The Department for Education has issued guidance to ensure that all classrooms in England follow the same rules.

"We are determined that all schools should prohibit the use of mobile phones throughout the school day—not only during lessons but during breaks and lunchtimes as well," the statement stated.

The guidance stated that in some schools, the use of mobile phones remains a ''daily battle. The document proposed four different scenarios for implementing the ban.

Notably, the first is a complete ban, requiring students to leave their devices at home, while the second requires them to turn them in to school staff upon arrival. The third option requires that the phones be kept in secure storage and "never used, seen, or heard". The final option allows students to keep their devices within easy reach if they never use them.

Students who violate the new rules will get detention or have their phones confiscated, according to the guidance.

The government believes that removing mobile phones will allow children and young people to spend more time being active and socialising with their peers, thereby improving their mental health.

Individual school headteachers in England, on the other hand, are currently responsible for determining their schools' mobile phone policies.
