Bathinda, May 29: In a tragic incident, gangster Amarpreet Samra, also known as 'Chucky', was shot dead as he exited a wedding reception in South Vancouver in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 28-year-old Samra had been listed among 11 notorious criminals by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC) as potential threats to public safety in August of the previous year.

The targeted shooting took place outside the Fraserview banquet hall near Fraser Street and South East Marine Drive, reportedly related to the ongoing gang conflict. Local newspaper Vancouver Sun reported that Amarpreet Samra, along with other wedding guests, was on the dance floor at the Fraserview Banquet Hall less than half an hour before the shooting occurred around 1:30 am on Fraser Street.

Amarpreet Samra and his older brother, Ravinder, who was also involved in gang activities, had been invited as guests to the wedding. Both brothers were affiliated with the UN Gang. Eyewitnesses stated that unidentified individuals entered the hall and instructed the DJ to stop the music. Approximately 60 guests were present at the time.

Vancouver Police issued an official statement, announcing that they are investigating the homicide of a 28-year-old man who was shot in the early morning hours. Multiple emergency calls reported the shooting outside the South Vancouver banquet hall, and patrol officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting to be a targeted act linked to the ongoing gang conflict. The investigation is ongoing, and the Vancouver Police Homicide Unit has urged anyone with relevant information to contact them at 604-717-2500.

In August 2022, Canadian police issued a rare warning about 11 individuals, including Amarpreet and Ravinder Samra, who were associated with high levels of gang violence. The warning advised the public to avoid proximity to these individuals. The majority of the men mentioned in the warning, including the Samra brothers, were of Punjabi origin. The British Columbia Police revealed their connection to multiple killings and shootings within the province, emphasizing the need for caution.
