Sikh leaders seek action in alleged blasphemous acts at Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara complex in Pakistan
New Delhi, November 20: Reports of alleged blasphemous acts at Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara complex in Pakistan have sparked widespread condemnation and demands for strict action against those responsible.
Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh strongly condemned the incident, urging severe action against those who organised an alcohol party within the gurdwara premises.
Giani Harpreet Singh termed the incident as "unfortunate" and emphasised the sanctity of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara as a revered place of worship for the Sikh community.
Sikh Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) spokesperson Gurcharan Singh Grewal urged the Jathedar of Akal Takht, Kartarpur Sahib, to clarify their stance and prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
This recent incident, akin to a previous occurrence in 2021 where a Pakistani model's photos within the gurdwara complex stirred controversy, has raised concerns among various Sikh organizations. SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami and DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka expressed apprehension and highlighted the need for strict adherence to Sikh 'rehat maryada' and responsible management of religious sites.
The importance of Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in the hearts of Sikhs globally cannot be overstated, and any perceived disrespect within its precincts is deeply concerning. The incident has reignited discussions about the necessity for maintaining reverence and upholding Sikh principles at religious sites.
