Ukraine's massive drone strike at Russian airbases, 40 aircraft hit

PTC News Desk: Ukraine launched a massive drone strike at Russia while targeting its airbases and at least 40 military aircrafts were shot down, Security Service of Ukraine confirmed.

The SBU further claimed that the Ukrainian forces hit Russian aircraft, including Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers, which it deploys to fire long-range missiles at Ukraine.

The regional governor, Igor Kobzev said that the Ukraine drones attacked the military unit in the Sredny settlement in Russia's Irkutsk region.

Explosions and thick smoke were reported near Olenya Air Base in Russia's Murmansk region, according to Belarusian news outlet NEXTA, which also shared photos and videos of the incident on X (formerly Twitter).

Initial reports indicate the possibility of a drone strike. Olenya Air Base is considered one of Russia’s major strategic aviation sites and houses aircraft capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

NEXTA noted, however, that there has been no official confirmation of the strike. If verified, it would represent one of the most significant attacks on Russian military infrastructure since the war began.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities.
