US dismisses Pakistani reporter’s claim that PM Modi opposed peace talks, says 'focus was on ceasefire'

PTC Web Desk: The United States firmly shut down a Pakistani journalist’s claims during a press briefing on Wednesday, refocusing attention on maintaining peace between India and Pakistan. The Pakistani reporter accused Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of opposing peace talks and claimed Pakistan supported the US-led efforts to de-escalate tensions.

He suggested that President Donald Trump deserved a Nobel Peace Prize if he succeeded in resolving the long-standing Kashmir conflict. "He’s the same gentleman that was not allowed to come to the US till 10 years ago," the reporter added, referring to PM Modi.

Responding to the question, US State Department official Thomas Pigott dismissed the claim and made it clear that the US is focused on maintaining the current ceasefire. "That is what we are happy to see. That’s where our focus remains. We want the ceasefire to hold and support direct communication between both sides," Pigott stated.

When asked whether Donald Trump could receive a Nobel Peace Prize, Pigott described the US President as both a “peacemaker” and a “dealmaker.”

“He values peace. He’s a dealmaker. He wants to see global conflicts come to an end. That has been clear from his efforts, including initiatives like the Abraham Accords,” Pigott said.

The Pakistani journalist went on to question India’s use of Israeli-made drones during Operation Sindoor and whether this could complicate Pakistan-Israel ties—especially when President Trump promotes unity among Jews, Muslims, and Christians through the Abraham Accords.

Pigott declined to comment on India’s use of Israeli drones, reiterating Washington’s neutral stance.

“Our focus is on the ceasefire and encouraging dialogue. The President wants to resolve conflicts, but there’s nothing more to comment on that,” he concluded.

The US has made it clear that while it supports peace efforts, it will not get drawn into political commentary or unverified accusations. The emphasis remains on regional stability and dialogue between India and Pakistan.
