YouTube's new feature to show when a channel is live streaming
Washington, February 21: Online video sharing and social media platform YouTube is set to roll out a new feature that will make it easier for users to identify a channel when it's live streaming.
The American firm is adding a new TikTok-style indicator to show when a channel is live streaming on the platform, announced its chief product officer Neal Mohan on Twitter.
When a channel is live streaming, you'll see a ring around the profile picture with the word "Live" on it, which you can tap to jump right into the live stream. According to The Verge, the feature should make it easier to find live content when browsing YouTube.
The feature is already used on a couple of other services. TikTok features a similar pulsing ring effect on a channel's profile picture when they're live streaming and you scroll past their video in your feed.

Instagram also uses a colourful ring around the profile pictures of live streaming accounts if they're shown at the top of your feed.
Like stories, which debuted as a Snapchat feature before being quickly cloned by almost every other platform, it appears that the live ring UI was too good to pass up.
But 'Shorts,' a feature that allows users to view short-form video material using a vertically scrolling feed, is perhaps the most obvious example of YouTube's inspiration from TikTok.
The feature is presently being rolled out on mobile, which means that smartphone users will either experience this new 'Live' ring feature right away or in the following days.
YouTube has recently rolled out a new video player design for both the mobile app and the website. In full-screen mode, the redesigned user interface now features a new row of quick toggle buttons for like, dislike, open comments, add a video to a playlist, share, and more videos.
