Young Indian Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa stunned world number 1, Magnus Carlsen, in the online rapid chess tournament Airthings Masters. On Monday,16-year-old Praggnanandhaa hit the headlines as he won with black pieces in 39 moves in a Tarrasch variation game, ending Carlsen's three-game winning streak. R Praggnanandhaa now lies in joint 12th spot after eight rounds with eight points. His stunning win over Carlsen follows a mediocre performance in the earlier rounds, which included a single victory over Lev Aronian, two draws, and four losses. In the preliminary round, there are seven more rounds to go. Moreover, Pragganandhaa joins Abhimanyu Mishra, Sergey Karjakin, Gukesh D, and Javokhir Sindarov as the fifth-youngest Grandmaster in history. He first gained fame in 2013, when he won the World Youth Chess Championships Under-8 title, earning him the FIDE Master title at the age of seven.
