BKI terror conspiracy case: Mastermind Kulwinderjeet, 3 terrorists get life imprisonment

BKI terror conspiracy case: National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Thursday sentenced four militants to life in a terrorism conspiracy case involving the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) group.

The court convicted and sentenced the terrorists, including the chief conspirator, Kulwinderjeet Singh alias Khanpuria, who was involved in numerous terrorist cases, including a bomb blast at Connaught Place and a grenade attack at Red Fort in Delhi in the 1990s.

He was also wanted in several terrorist cases, including a plot to commit targeted killings in Punjab.

Khanpuria was found to be the mastermind behind the BKI terror plot in this case. He had been absconding since 2019 and was apprehended by the NIA at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi during his deportation from Bangkok in November 2022.

He was then carrying a Rs 5 lakh reward for his arrest, and the NIA court declared him a proclaimed offender.

According to the NIA probe, while Khanpuria was based abroad, he met Harmeet, alias PhD, and later wanted Pakistan-based International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) Chief Lakhbir Singh Rode, who persuaded him to use his India-based terrorist associates to target various identified individuals and establishments.

The NIA Special Court in Mohali, Punjab, announced Khanpuria's conviction along with three other terrorists.

The other three accused, who were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment are Sampuran Singh, Ravinderpal Singh, Jagdev Singh, and Harcharan Singh.
