Dense fog disrupts Delhi airport operations, causing delay for 30 flights

New Delhi, December 26: The ongoing dense fog in Delhi caused significant disruptions at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, leading to delays in approximately 30 flights, both domestic and international. The persisting foggy conditions forced the airport to issue an advisory, warning passengers about potential disruptions in non-CAT III compliant flights.

Airport officials alerted travelers to expect delays and advised contacting respective airlines for updated flight information due to the adverse weather conditions affecting non-CAT III compliant flights. This system, crucial for landing during low visibility, affected flights that lacked this specialized technology.

On the previous day, eight flights had to be diverted from Delhi Airport, with seven redirected to Jaipur and one to Ahmedabad, between 6 am and 9 am due to poor visibility. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts continued fog in Delhi until December 28, followed by foggy conditions persisting until December 30. Additionally, the weather department predicts a dip in the minimum temperature during this period.

Moreover, the IMD reported very dense fog in pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha. Moderate fog was observed in isolated areas of West Uttar Pradesh, with shallow fog reported in limited pockets of Chandigarh, Bihar, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Tripura on Monday morning.
