Hundreds of vehicles stranded as massive landslide hits Jammu-Srinagar NH

Landslide in JK: Numerous vehicles were left stranded as massive landslide hits Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. 

The vehicles left stranded because of significant landslides and falling rocks along the 270-kilometer highway, which serves as the sole road connection between Kashmir and rest of India. 

The attempts are underway for the last three days to reopen the highway to traffic but Jammu-Srinagar NHW is still blocked due to major landslides at Kishtwari Pather, Banihal, intermittent shooting stones at several places between Nashree and Banihal. 

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall led to closure of several other important roads such as Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road, Bhaderwah-Chamba road and  Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road. 

Keeping in view the safety and security of people in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K Traffic Police issued an advisory for the people on its official X handle (former Twitter).

The advisory reads, “ People are advised to undertake journey on NH-44 only after confirming status of the road from Traffic control units as under”
