60 million people infected by Covid-19 in US, says Johns Hopkins University
Coronavirus US: Covid-19 tally in the US surpassed the mark of 60 million on Sunday with at least 837,594 casualties since January 2020, claimed research from Johns Hopkins University.
With the highest number of cases and deaths by Covid-19 infection, the US is making up around 20 percent of the global caseload.
The country also accounts for over 15 percent of global mortality. As per the figures reported by Xinhua News Agency, the US' coronavirus infection tally had increased to 60,062,077, with a total of 837,504 casualties, as of 4:21 p.m. local time (2121 GMT).
US Covid-19 caseload hit the 10 million mark on November 9, 2020, and crossed 20 million on January 1, 2021. The tally surpassed the 30 million mark on March 24.

Furthermore, the caseload surpassed 40 million infections on September 6 and crossed 50 million on December 13, according to the news agency.
It is worth mentioning that the US reported its first case of the highly contagious 'Omicron' variant of the COVID-19 on December 1, 2021. The case was reported in California, said Top Medical Adviser Anthony Fauci while talking to CNN.
Omicron is wreaking havoc in many nations and countries are resorting to stricter Covid protocols.
