925 Women Challaned For Not Wearing Helmets in Chandigarh

925 Women Challaned For Not Wearing Helmets in Chandigarh UT Police has challaned 925 two-wheeler women riders within 18 days, i.e. from September 5 to September 23 for not wearing helmets. The Police has submitted this data to Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case related to the mandatory wearing of helmets for women riders. This move been taken to spread awareness about the importance of wearing helmets. The UT police have asked Punjab Police to submit a report stating how to identify a Sikh woman if found not wearing a helmet. Before taking this step, Chandigarh police organized a rigorous campaign to make people aware about the importance of wearing helmets. It distributed 17,000 pamphlets and stickers. It also distributed 1,400 helmets during awareness campaigns along with 1,200 coffee mugs and 500 handkerchiefs. The police also gave away 3,500 thank you cards to women who were wearing helmets. Not only this, UT police sent bulk messages through various mobile service providers. -PTC NEWS
