Air strikes between Israel, Gaza-based militants claim 51 lives
Tel Aviv (Israel), August 8: In the most recent round of combat between Israel and Gaza-based militants, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), up to 51 persons were killed in Gaza, including 24 members of the Jihad terror group.

The military claims that 16 civilians who were not involved in the fighting were killed by Gazan rockets that missed their target. According to the IDF, another 11 people who were not linked to terror organisations were killed, according to the report.
The Times of Israel reported citing the Israeli Defense Forces that a total of 27 people, including a number of children, were killed in the fighting as a result.
The Israeli army initiated an operation "Breaking Dawn" against the Palestinian movement of Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip and carried out missile strikes, initially killing 10 people and injuring over 50 on Friday. The operation ended with a truce last night.

The military reported that militants in the Gaza Strip fired almost 1,100 rockets at Israel.
It claimed that about 200 rockets missed their targets and landed in the Gaza Strip.
About 170 targets associated with Palestinian Islamic Jihad were struck by the IDF, including senior leaders and members of the terrorist organisation.
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council is scheduled to hold an emergency closed-door meeting on Monday to discuss the latest escalation between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) in the Gaza Strip.
Security Council members, in the meeting, will discuss "the current developments and ways to support international efforts to achieve a comprehensive and just peace."
