24-year-old Shahnaaz Khan elected as Sarpanch in a village in Rajasthan
A village in Rajasthan has elected a 24-year-old lady as their Sarpanch earlier in March.
Shahnaaz Khan, who is a resident of Garhazan village and a doctor in making, was elected sarpanch of the Bharatpur district on March 5.
Shahnaaz's grandfather was the sarpanch of her village for 55 years before a court dismissed his candidature for forging educational documents.
Shahnaaz is currently the most educated individual in her village and is currently a student of the Teerthanker Mahaveer Medical College and Research Center in Moradabad.
The young leader faces tough challenges including helping Bharatpur’s literacy rates which currently stand at 70.1 per cent as compared to a state average of 66.1 per cent and a national average of 74.04 per cent.
Last year, Jabna Chauchan from Himachal Pradesh made history by being elected India's youngest sarpanch at 23 years of age.
