Army Major among 4 soldiers killed in Pulwama encounter

Four Army personnel including a Major were killed in an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in Pulwama district. The encounter took place on Monday morning in Pinglina area of Pulwama. The army personnel killed in the encounter belonged to 55 Rashtriya Rifles.

According to the media sources, one civilian was also killed in this gunfight. Security forces received information that some militants were hiding in the area. Following which Indian Army's 55 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and Special Operation Group jointly launched a cordon in the early hours of Monday morning. During the search operation, a gunfight broke out.

Security forces also cornered two terrorists. These terrorists were suspected to have links with Adil Ahmad Dar, a Jaish-e-Mohammed bomber who was involved in a terror attack killing 44 CRPF jawans.

The Army officer is identified as Major V S Dhoundiyal. Other soldiers killed are Head Constable Sheo Ram, Sepoy Ajay Kumar and Sepoy Hari Singh. A civilian, Mushtaq Ahmad, was also killed in the gunfight.
