Delhi weather : According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Delhi recorded the hottest day of the season with temperature reaching a blistering 41.1 degrees Celsius. 

This temperature was observed on May 6, 2024, marked the hottest day yet in the capital city. The rising temperatures have intensified the heatwave conditions prevailing in the region, causing discomfort to residents and exacerbating concerns about heat-related illnesses.


Previously recorded highest temperature of the season in Delhi at 40.5 degrees Celsius was on April 27. Throughout the day, relative humidity fluctuated between 19 percent and 63 percent.

Meanwhile, the several states across India grappled with intense heat, with temperatures soaring as high as 45 degrees Celsius in some areas. 

Regions such as Telangana, Rayalaseema in Andhra Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, northern interior Karnataka, and northern Madhya Pradesh experienced particularly scorching conditions, with temperatures ranging from 44 to 45 degrees Celsius. 

Heatwave 2024 : Do’s and Don’ts 

  • Authorities have issued advisories urging residents to remain indoors during the hottest hours of the day, typically midday to late afternoon, and to avoid strenuous outdoor activities. 
  • Avoid heat exposure- keep cool. 
  • Avoid dehydration. 
  • Drink sufficient water- even if not thirsty. 
  • Avoid heat exposure, wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose, cotton clothes and cover the head by use of cloth, hat or umbrella etc. 
  • Use ORS, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, etc to keep yourself hydrated

Weather forecasts for the upcoming week suggest that high temperatures may persist in North India.
