Azlan Shah Hockey: Japan rounds off with a 6-1 win over Poland

Asian Games champion Japan rounded off its engagements in the 28th Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament with a comfortable 6-1 win over bottom placed Poland to take the fifth position at Ipoh on Saturday.

The win, second for Japan, in the six nation tournament, saved the Asian Games champion from taking the wooden spoon.

Poland ended the tournament without a win and a point.

In fact, Poland gave a false start by taking lead inthe 31st minute after a barren first half. Gumny Mikholaj scored a field goal.

The Poles hung onto this solitary goal lead till 46th minute after which the Japanese virtually launched a blitzkrieg scoring six goals. Two of these goals came from Hirotaka Makuri, who also had the distinction of converting a penalty corner. Kentaro Fukuda, also scored two field goals. Sugaru Hoshi and Ryosei Kato were the other goal scorers for Japan.
